Will you ever wondered why your friend can lose weight or stay thin eating chocolate cake, while you’re slimming diet and not even a gram. The secret, or rather the key lies in metabolism.
What is metabolism?
It is a process of energy exchange that keeps the body alive. Energy consumed through food and this energy is removed or burned when converted into heat and movement. Our body constantly burns calories even when sleeping. The organism has the ability to burn any excess food to pass through the stomach, preventing it from becoming fat.
The heavy advertising of products and services for weight loss has done that through this medium, people are increasingly interested and captivated by the promise of such ads.
In recent times has increased the use of diets based on very few calories some even less than 600 calories, most are a fast, themselves of course that these quantities are rapid weight loss, but the damage to health is very high, since these diet plans do not provide the minimum requirements of essential nutrients such as vitamins, minerals and proteins. On the other hand the momentary drop in weight is only sufficient to eat a little more to gain weight again and perhaps recover the extra kilos. This is because these low-calorie diets do not work on metabolism.
Metabolism varies from person to person, so people have different body frame (size) and this has to do with your metabolic rate. The metabolic rate is the rate at which our body burns calories.
Factors that may determine the metabolic may be age, sex, genetic, hormonal, stress levels, muscle mass, etc. The more muscle burn more calories this is one reason why people with age and gain weight because men accumulate less fat than women. Hence also the importance of physical activity in addition to weight loss programs.
And of course, the food we eat is one of the strongest factors. The choice of food actually varies by lifestyle. Most are very busy people and eat fast food or junk. This leads to an unhealthy diet and then a higher intake of calories compared to foods that are healthy.
More calories, the slower the metabolic rate to burn more fat and gain weight.
